We've gone over different examples of knot magic and easy ways to use it on the blog before. It's an incredibly fun and easy type of magic to do everyday. Yet if you want to make a really powerful statement with knot magic, you can be as precise and detailed as you want. One specification being the type of fabric you choose. Fabric, and how a garment is made in general, can play a large part in a garment or poppet you make as they each have different spiritual correspondences. Cotton is a perfect example of this, especially as it's such a common substances in fabric and yarn. Cotton is one of the most common fabrics internationally, mostly because it's very easy to grow and it's used in everything. When discussing the spiritual and magical qualities of cotton, where it comes from is incredibly important. It grows from the ground, soaks up the suns rays, and then is refined. It's standard to hand pick it, as machines have difficulty with getting the fiber completely out of the thorns. In the United States, though, it's picked mechanically. Cotton, silk, and other natural fibres are associated with cleanliness and purity. They help protect from negative energies while having the ability to retain vibrations you purposely put in it. In witchcraft, some spellwork calls for it to be burned, causing rain. For correspondences, cotton is associated with the earth; understandably so. Naturally dyed cotton takes on the energies of the color and plant dyes, making it incredibly versatile. One of the most creative ways to use cotton, in my opinion, is with naturally-dyed yarn. Incredibly expensive as it may be, knitting or crocheting with natural cotton holds the intent of the maker more intensely and for longer. Anna Theodoridou from AnnaHandmadeknitwear does just that with her pieces. This blue cotton shawl that Anna's featuring, her favorite piece, is made with organically grown cotton. If you really want to break this down magically, here's some details more details about this Boho scarf:
When you take into account all numerologic and natural correspondences, Anna has created a very powerful piece of magic. And, lucky for you guys, you know how to use it. The owner of AnnaHandmadeknitwear makes each and every single one of her products this way. As a fellow crocheter and knitter, I admire her talent and dedication to her craft.
